Back in 2014 SUP Mag UK profiled one of the UK’s first stand up paddle boarding clubs – Central SUP, based in Tamworth. Chris Kenyon, founding chairman, has been at the forefront of developing grass roots levels stand up paddling and continues to input massive amounts of his time and enthusiasm. Here’s the article profiling the club – the first of an ongoing trend for SUP Mag UK.
Probably the most common thing I get told by newcomers to the sport is: ‘I’m a surfer, but I don’t live near the sea so I want to give SUP a try’. My reply is simple: ‘You’ve come to the right place!’
Cornwall has always held a special place in my heart. It’s where I have spent many a summer since before I could even walk. I have strong family ties there and my grandfather was an avid sailor in Mounts Bay as well as a volunteer for the coastguard.

If anyone has grasped SUP to full effect, it’s the charismatic founder of Central SUP and Kenyon Watersports, Chris Kenyon. Through sheer passion and commitment Chris has brought stand up paddle boarding to the midlands, introducing hundreds of people to the sport with his infectious enthusiasm – we thought we needed to share a bit of this mans passion, so we asked him to write us a regular coloumn. A regular guy, with a regular job enjoying a fantastic sport as a ‘jack of all trades’. He’s got a great love for SUP and in his opening column gives us a feel for whats to come and why he has that ‘love for SUP’.
